E-E-A-T

What is E-E-A-T?

E-E-A-T stands for experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trustworthiness: Google's framework for what makes content credible. Google is precise about its status: E-E-A-T itself is not a specific ranking factor, but Google's systems use signals that identify content with good E-E-A-T, with heightened emphasis on topics affecting money, health or safety.

Why it matters for AI visibility

E-E-A-T matters twice over in the AI era. Directly, because Google's AI Overviews are built on the same Search systems that weigh those credibility signals, so the content habits E-E-A-T encourages, named authors, first-hand experience, honest sourcing, feed straight into who gets quoted in AI answers. Indirectly, because every other engine faces the same problem Google coined the acronym for: deciding which of the web's contradictory voices to trust. Assistants recommending a business lean on the same evidence trail, consistent expertise, third-party corroboration, a track record visible across independent sources. For a small business the practical translation is unglamorous: put real names and credentials on your content, write from experience you actually have, and accumulate honest external evidence. It is also a warning label for AEO itself: content farms of anonymous AI-generated pages are betting against the direction every engine is moving.
