What is Online reviews?

Online reviews are customer ratings and write-ups on platforms like Google, Trustpilot and industry-specific sites. AI engines read them at scale and repeat their consensus: volume, recency, spread across platforms and the recurring themes in review text all shape whether, and how warmly, assistants recommend a business.

Why it matters for AI visibility

When an assistant says a business is well reviewed but customers mention slow support, that sentence was assembled from real review text, compressed into exactly the framing a prospect hears first. Reviews are among the most-cited evidence for local and service recommendations, and engines are better at reading them than sceptics assume: they notice a two-year gap in your Google reviews, a rating that diverges between platforms, and themes that recur across dozens of write-ups. The management playbook is honest and boring: ask consistently so recency never decays, cover the platforms your buyers and the engines actually read rather than only Google, respond publicly to criticism because responses are read too, and treat recurring negative themes as operations feedback, since the only durable way to change what the engines summarise is to change what customers keep saying. Fabricated reviews, meanwhile, are a compounding liability: platforms police them, engines weigh platform trust, and a purge can drop your visibility across every assistant at once.
