AI Search Pulse
How the AI Search Pulse is measured
Every week we ask the same questions of six AI engines and count how often each UK company is named. This page is the method in full. Updated .
For what the first week of answers showed, read the first-reading report.
What is measured
The share of eligible AI answers that name a company. We do not measure traffic, sales or how good a company is. Each reading is shown as n of N: the number of answers that named the company out of the answers that could have.
The six engines
ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. The engines we reach through DataForSEO are set to the UK. The table shows, for the latest scan (3 November 2026), whether a UK location was sent to each engine. Many questions do not say UK in words, as buyers often do not, so an engine can still answer for another market. On 3 November 2026, 24 of Claude's 60 answers on home EV chargers and 13 of Gemini's used US products or terms, such as Level 2 or ChargePoint Home.
| Engine | UK location |
|---|---|
| ChatGPT | UK location sent |
| Claude | UK location sent |
| Gemini | UK location not sent |
| Perplexity | UK location sent |
| Google AI Overviews | UK location sent |
| Google AI Mode | UK location sent |
Questions
Each industry has 60 questions, written the way a UK buyer would ask them. They cover finding a supplier, comparing, price, suitability, switching, reputation and UK rules. Questions are split into segments within the industry. The set is versioned: any change makes a new version, and a change is noted on the page. We ask national questions only, with no town or city in them.
Brands
Each industry has a brand list of national UK companies. Every brand has aliases (other names people use), and each industry has a blocked-words list, so a name that is also an ordinary word is not counted when it is used in its ordinary sense. Requests to join are handled through the add-your-brand form and join the next version of the list.
Detection
A company counts as named only on deterministic evidence: its name or an alias in the answer text, or its domain in a cited source. An AI reader may suggest a possible mention, but it never decides one. A company counts once per answer, however many times it is named in it.
Eligible answers
An answer is eligible when the engine gave an answer to count. When an engine shows no AI answer for a question, that is not a miss, and it is left out of N. A run that fails counts against that engine's completion rate.
The figures
Visibility is pooled: all named answers across the included engines, divided by all eligible answers across them.
The ± comes from a bootstrap over questions. We re-draw the question set many times, with replacement, and recompute the figure each time. The range that holds 95% of those figures is the margin. It means that if we had asked a different mix of similar questions, the figure would land inside this range 95 times in 100.
How this differs from the client score. Our client score uses a Wilson interval on its mention rate (see how the AEOscore is calculated). The Pulse asks the same question on six engines, and those six answers are not independent. A Wilson interval on the pooled answers would be too narrow. Re-drawing whole questions keeps each question's six answers together, so the margin reflects how much the question mix matters.
Change is measured in percentage points, against the previous comparable scan (same question version), on engines included in both weeks and on question and engine pairs answered in both. A company new to the list has no change.
Within noise means the 95% range of the change includes zero, or the move is under 3 points. We never present a within-noise change as a mover.
The four-scan average is the mean of a company's weekly figure over the latest four published scans of the same question version. It appears only once four such scans exist with the company listed in all of them.
0.0% and a dash. 0.0% means we measured and the company was never named. A dash means there is no reading.
Publication rules
An engine is included in a scan only when at least 90% of its runs completed. A scan is published only when at least 5 of the 6 engines are included and completion across the included engines is at least 95%. A scan that misses either test is held, not published. Published snapshots are never edited. A correction is a dated note on the page.
Review before publishing
Each scan goes through anomaly checks before it goes live, such as a company's figure moving more than 10 points, any company named in over 60% of answers (which could be a name clash), an engine completing under 90% of its runs, a jump of over 20 points in an engine's no-AI-answer rate, the first scan of an industry, or a new question or brand list version. A scan that trips one is held until it has been checked.
Quotes are a small sample. We show a few sentences per engine, and only when the sentence is about the company named and has no criticism, price, rating or safety claim in it. Every quote is checked for this before it goes up. Quotes are the engines' own words with formatting removed and dashes simplified. We have not checked what they say and they are not our view. The figures count every answer, whether it is quoted or not.
Self-citation
When an AI answer cites or names aeoscore.co.uk, we flag it on the scan page. We leave our own site out of every sources list so it cannot flatter the picture.
Independence, meaning and logos
Inclusion is free. No company can pay to be listed or moved. AEOscore sells AI visibility services, and companies listed here may be or become clients. A listing does not mean a company is a client or endorses AEOscore.
A ranking measures how often AI answers name a company. It is not a recommendation, and nothing here is financial advice.
Logos are trade marks of their owners and are shown only to identify each company. A company that asks gets its logo swapped for initials straight away.
Corrections
If a figure is wrong, we add a dated note. We never edit a published figure without saying so. We answer within 5 working days, and we only change a listing if the measurement is wrong.

Questions people ask
- How do I get my company listed?
- Use the add-your-brand form. If the company is a national UK brand in one of the industries we cover, it joins the next brand list, and we email you when its first reading is live.
- Can I pay to be listed or moved?
- No. Inclusion is free. No company can pay to be listed or moved. AEOscore sells AI visibility services, and companies listed here may be or become clients, but that never changes a figure.
- Why did my figure move?
- Most small moves are noise. Each week the same questions are asked again, and AI answers vary from one run to the next. We only call a change a move when its 95% range excludes zero and it is at least 3 points.
- Why does my company show a dash?
- A dash means there is no reading: no eligible answers on that engine. It is different from 0.0%, which means we measured and the company was never named.
- What does the ± mean?
- It is the margin of error. It means that if we had asked a different mix of similar questions, the figure would land inside this range 95 times in 100.
- How do I report an error?
- Email hello@aeoscore.co.uk with the page and the figure. We answer within 5 working days. We only change a listing if the measurement is wrong, and every change carries a dated note.
